EU-OSHA has presented its Foresight om climate change related developments and crises at the ESPAS Practitioners Day of the EU Foresight days in Brussels.

“Workers are open first to be exposed emerging risks such as climate change and other disruptive events than ‘the public’ that can mostly choose to avoid the emergencies (ILO, 2023). The main question in this foresight is how the world of work is going to adjust and manage the possible permanent changes and disruptions that will be regularly triggered by extreme future climate events, such as continuous droughts and forest fire, severe flooding, heat waves, changes in disease vector distribution or pandemics, as well as the human response to those extreme events, such as new mitigating programs/climate action, preparation activities in sectors as agriculture/forestry, tourism, and energy, and moreover the associated indirect phenomena such as forced migration waves, geopolitical and economic instability, that all impact workplaces and OSH.”

The ESPAS Practitioners Day is an event for Foresight practitioners working across the EU institutions, agencies and other bodies as well as in the EU Member States’ governments. The event is an opportunity to learn and exchange information and knowledge about the recent foresight projects undertaken by participating organisations, newest and new methodologies, and to network with peers. The interactive programme contains presentations and ‘hands-on’ demonstrations of how to do foresight in various dimensions. The focus of the day will be especially on futures literacy and on the use of AI in foresight.
