Companies have an ethical and legal responsibility to ensure that their workers have safe working conditions. Additionally, EU-OSHA estimates that 3.9% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and 3.3% of European GDP is spent on dealing with work-related injuries and diseases, equivalent to a cost of approximately 2,680 billion and 476 billion, respectively.
In order to raise awareness of the importance of occupational safety and health (OSH), the Slovenian Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (MoLFSA) has organised this online event.
The seminar begins by discussing the basics of safety and health at work before moving on to focus on ergonomic office set-up and the prevention and management of work-related stress. Attendees watch a variety of informational videos focused on remote work, the importance of involving workers in OSH and the documentary film ‘Before the Bridge’, which won the Healthy Workplaces Award in 2017 and raises awareness of how automation will affect the future of humanity.
This online event, held on 20 April, is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about workplace health and safety.
